The Tea Cult

Get out of your head

On April 27th 2025 The Tea Cult opened its doors to Calgarians.

The Tea Cult is a cozy, slow-paced, six-seat tea room full of cultural heritage intricately woven together with stories and modern art. It’s a highly personal space with design elements that are eccentric, unconventional, and playfully inappropriate.

The publicly open days and hours of The Tea Cult are unfortunately rather limited. If the posted hours don’t work for you to visit me at The Tea Cult, you can also try my (nearly) full menu at Carino during our dinner service Wednesday to Saturday, or enjoy a smaller list of select offerings at Heliopolis Social Cafe or Cafe Jindo. I’m happy to open privately (outside of posted business hours) to curate guided tastings or teach classes; please email me to discuss this.

Most of the people who come to see me probably enjoy tea, but not a small number come just to listen to the stories (I’ve even been told I’m a good storyteller :^) ). I’ve been told I’m passionate, articulate, charismatic, and a good teacher; while I don’t know about any of that, be assured that I’ll do my best to make sure you leave with positive thoughts about our time together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We have answers.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes, we accept reservations. Please call, email, or book through instagram. There are only 6 seats and they can be reserved for 2 hour windows while my shop is under regular operating hours.

What are your operating hours?

We are open from 12:00 PM to 8 PM, Sunday. Open 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Monday and Tuesday. We’re closed to the public Wednesday to Saturday, though private bookings and events are available.

Do you have anything to eat?

Not yet, but soon I hope to add a rice dish called ochazuke. Currently the shop is just serving tea.

Is the shop wheelchair accessible?

I’m sorry, it might not be. The inside of the shop is very tight. It’s an old building, and there is no wheelchair access from the parking lot. There is a ramp from the back alley.

Is there any parking available?

Yes, there is a 6 spot parking lot adjacent to the shop (though it is quite contested space). There is paid street just outside the parking lot on 9th avenue. There is plenty of free parking along 8th avenue and more on 14th street.

Can I order brewed tea to go? How about dry leaves?

No problem. The full menu is available to brew. It is a tea shop, I sell the dried leaves.

Is it a child friendly space?

There’s a lot of erotic innuendo used in the space as personally meaningful decor. I’d say that depends on you as a parent. There is nothing explicit.

Can I book a private tasting event?

Absolutely. Private events can be booked any day, at any time. I will endeavour to fulfill your wishes. Please get in touch with me to discuss availability, pricing, etc.

I wrote the article “The Key to the Sacred Place” to suggest that with intention, tea can guide us into a unique mental space. While many factors influence our success in reaching this space, I am committed to discovering the path of least resistance—not only to help others access it but also to explore it deeper myself, and uncover the hidden treasures that surely reside within.
